Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

(1) I have signed up as a player in your pool. What is my status and my next step?
This is a private football pool and is not open to the general public. You are here by special invitation and therefore you have registered as a Primary Player and Master Account holder. You can add friends and family members to your account in the “My Picks” page.
(2) How do I add more players to my account?
Go to your “My Picks” page and select “Add Sub Player” link located at the top of the table. You only need to register a new player’s Username, First & Last Name. Please do not use duplicate names and all players are registered with two picks (new this year). All of the players will share the same email address as the Master Player making it easy for the Administrator to locate them.
(3) How much does it cost to play?
The cost is broken down as follows: There are 17 regular season games and 3 playoff games. That is a total of 20 potential games you may be playing in. The cost is .50 cents per game, but you will be entering all 20 games at the beginning of the season, which equals $10 for 1 pick. $20 total, since ALL players are entering with two picks this season. There are no additional costs over the course of the entire NFL Football Season (including the Super Bowl). Survive as long as you can and take home the bacon!
(4) How many picks can I have?
Each individual player (First & Last Name) automatically acquires 2 picks at the beginning of the season. Please ensure that none of your players have duplicate first and last names (or usernames) when you register them.
(5) How do I pay for my picks?
Simply select the large “Make A Payment” icon in your “My Picks” page and follow the easy detailed instructions. Please make your payment to the appropriate Administrator.
(6) Is this Survivor Pool a legal social gambling activity?
My best-faith assumption is yes. The following criteria is met: 1) We take no cut of the pot (all money in, all money out); 2) Every player has an equal chance of winning a game which we have no influence over; 3) The total player risk is a maximum of $1 per game; 4) No additional players are added after the game begins.

RCW 9.46 states in part: “It is hereby declared to be the policy of the legislature, recognizing the close relationship between professional gambling and organized crime, to restrain all persons from seeking profit from professional gambling activities in this state; to restrain all persons from patronizing such professional gambling activities; to safeguard the public against the evils induced by common gamblers and common gambling houses engaged in professional gambling; and at the same time, both to preserve the freedom of the press and to avoid restricting participation by individuals in activities and social pastimes, which activities and social pastimes are more for amusement rather than for profit, do not maliciously affect the public, and do not breach the peace.”
(7) Once I add new players, can they login and make their own picks?
No. The Primary Player is the only one who can login using his/her established Username & Password. The Primary Player could certainly share his/her login information with one or all of his/her other players, which would allow them to login as the Primary Player and make or change any pick for any player. This will be left to personal preference.
(8) Can I change my Password and/or Email Address?
Yes. Primary Players only may change their password at any time by going into their player profile (in the upper right corner of the page header) and select edit profile. Sub-Players do not have a password or login capability.
(9) Do we consider point-spreads when making our picks?
No. All games are played straight-up with no point-spreads.
(10) How do I make picks?
It is easy from the “My Picks” page. Simply click on the Players Username ( after paid status ) and it will link you to the Make Pick page for that player. At the top of the page you will see large blue text that will let you know what player you are making a pick for. Select the team from the matchup table and scroll to the bottom of the page where you will click the “Submit” button where you will be re-directed to the My Picks page.
(11) Can I pick the same team each and every week throughout the season?
Yes. There are no restrictions on the teams you select.
(12) Can I place my 2 picks on the same team in one week?
Yes.
(13) What happens if I forget to make a pick?
There are no “default” picks. Once the game is locked, a blank pick is a “Loss”.
(14) What happens if the game results in a tie?
A tie game is a “Loss” for every player picking either team.
(15) I made my 2 picks; can I change 1 before the games start?
Yes. You can change your picks as many times as you like before the game is locked. Simply click on the team you want to change and delete that pick and pick another team.
(16) What if my clock at home showed I still had 3 minutes to make a pick, but the website clock indicates the game is locked?
Sorry, the website clock is the only official timing device for this game. All times displayed on the site are Eastern; however, the countdown clock is easy to follow. You should watch it.
(17) What should I do if my computer, internet (or both) crash right before the deadline to make my pick?
Have an alternate plan! Players have the burden to protect themselves. There is 1 week between games. Don’t place yourself in a live-or-die situation with minutes before the deadline. If you do, then you accept the consequences of what might happen. You can always make early picks and change them as the week goes on. I am not always available and don’t tend to be very sympathetic in these cases. The very smallest appearance of impropriety could destroy a game like this. Each player (including myself) has the responsibility to plan and play within the rules.
(18) Can I see what teams all of the other players picked?
Yes. Go to your “Players Picks” page. There you will find a table listing all picks, including yours. You can sort any of the columns by clicking in the column header or search for specific players using the search box. All of your player picks will be visible to you. All other player’s picks will initially show as “N/P” which indicates they have not made their pick for the week. “***” indicates they have made their pick but the pick will not be visible to everyone until the game is locked.

The “Top Survivor Picks” table located in the right column of the “Home” page will indicate the total number of picks on any given team for that week and ultimately display whether the team won or lost. The Team column will display as “NA” until the game is locked, and the W/L column will display as “NA” until the scores are entered by the Administrator.
(19) Can I make good-natured comments to or about other players and/or make remarks about the website appearance or functionality?
Yes. Use the “Comments” tab in the header to read or make remarks. Any comments that are considered vulgar or in bad taste and/or contain any profanity will not be tolerated. The Administrator may inactivate any player (at his discretion) if they engage in such behavior. There is no appeal process. Keep it clean and let’s have fun with this.
(20) How does the game end?
The game can end in several ways. First, if everyone loses their pick(s) prior to the Super Bowl except 1 player, the game is obviously over and we have a winner. Second, if the player pool is reduced to ten (10) or fewer players, those players will be provided 3 options to consider. (1) Continue playing, (2) split a portion of the pot and continue playing for the remainder,( or 3) split the entire pot and end the game. These options will only be offered one time during the course of the season. The response must be unanimous or we will continue to play.
